Orchid Show 2013 – Danga Bay in Johor Bahru.

The New Year has come with a Display of color that one would expect to see at the  Annual Orchid Show in Johor Bahru.  it was a great discovery as I was passing and called in after seeing the banners flowing in the wind along the shores of Danga Bay on my way to do some shopping in Bukit Indah.

GOOD NEWS is you still catch it, as it’s on today also, I bought myself a big purple orchid at the show and am so pleased I may even go back down to purchase some more.

For Now please enjoy the photos I took of the Show.

    1. Hello CF Tan, Not being an expert I asked the lady selling them and she said they do not like wind and not to give to much water, apart from that I am also a beginner, the one I bought from her has been quite good and blooms so nice. If it continues then I will get some more and give it a go at growing and propagating them, but good luck with yours CF Tan, if you get some.

      1. Hi Wu, I am having difficulty finding any info about the orchid show in JB but did come across the fact that JB is holding its International Floria Show on the 15th May2014 and was thinking that maybe this has replaced the Orchid show. but the problem is I can not find the venue for it – the last one was in Nusajaya but they don’t say where. on another note i did find a place in Johor that may be of interest to you It’s called Orchid Valley and has some of the best orchids in the world.
        More info here,
Located in the village of Kangkar Pulai, 30km northwest of Johor Bahru, Orchid Valley is a 40-ha. property at the foot of Gunung Pulai (Mount Pulai). Orchid Valley is reputedly the largest tropical orchid farm in the world. It has beautiful and exotic orchids from over 80 varieties. It is also internationally recognised, with some hybrids registered with the World Orchid Society in London.

Since its opening in February 1996, the Orchid Valley has become a popular attraction among tourists and orchid lovers especially from Singapore. Here, visitors can buy cut flowers or potted plants of exotic orchid breeds at very reasonable prices. The cool, fresh air and the scenic views with undulating hills in the backdrop are a welome change for urban visitors.

The farm consists of an orchid plantation, an educational corridor, a tourist centre and a research laboratory. Other facilities for visitors include a restaurant, a children’s playground and viewing terraces. Waterfalls, lakes and fountains create a soothing ambience, and a tram ride around the farm lets visitors enjoy the breathtaking sights in comfort.

The farm is open daily from 8.30am to 5.30pm. A small entrance fee is applicable.
